Week 3

This week, I continued to cut grass and weed for the entirety of my time at the tea farm. It was a little bit challenging because weeding and cutting grass by hand for whole days can get a little repetitive and tiring. Especially this week because it was so hot! I think most of my happy moments this week were at the end of the days when I had finished at the tea farm and was getting in the car to head home. It was super hot so turning on the air conditioner in my car riding home felt very good. Also, it felt good to have put in a hard days work and be able to relax afterwards in the cool car. Challenging moments from the week were cutting grass because my allergies were really not liking that activity.

I don't think that I learned a lot of new things this week. I did learn a little more about tea processing and how it can be dried outside rather than inside. I think that my progress since week one is going well! I am really enjoying my time on the farm and next week I will have more to blog about as I will be working much more in preparation for their tea open house on Saturday, June 12.

I do not have any new questions as of right now.

Me in the tea fields with my cutting tool. I used this tool for weeding and cutting grass.

Me and Ayla in the tea field. She's been coming out with me occasionally to help out on the farm! :o

  1. I nearly sneezed just reading your post! :) Farming can be really hard and repetitive. Congrats to you for hanging in there!

  2. What happens in a tea open house? Is that for customer sampling? Small or large scale? As in, the farm is selling to individuals, local vendors or some large endeavor?

I read the other day that grass pollen is the highest possible in Portland right now. I'm sorry about those allergies. I keep wondering how farmers do this long-term.

    1. At the open house, there was tea and tea plants for sale and customers could also sample! It was much more small scale, selling to only individuals although in past years, they have sold some of their products to Smith Tea Co. And yes it amazes me that farmers deal with grass mulch like this all the time during allergy season. Thoguht about investing in some Claritin but is probably no longer necessary as projects just ended :D
